At Dr. Stanley Cochrane Memorial Kindergarten we have four very experienced, qualified and dedicated staff.
Desiree is the teacher of our four year old group and our Educational Leader, and joined Dr. Stanley Cochrane Memorial Kindergarten in 2016. In her role as Educational Leader, Desiree affirms and inspires our kinder’s programs and practices, and is responsible for providing support, whilst mentoring and encouraging educational growth opportunities for all our staff. She has a genuine love for children and is very passionate about building relationships not only with children but with their families and the greater community. Desiree lives in the Dandenong Ranges with her husband Josh and their boys, Kaizer and Taj. Desiree enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, and is passionate about the low tox lifestyle.
Stephanie is the teacher of our three year old group. Stephanie values the importance of establishing positive and meaningful partnerships with families and educators and building warm, responsive and close relationships with children. She strives to work in an environment that is culturally inclusive and encourages every child to reach their full potential. When she is not teaching, you will find her making floral arrangements and walking her dogs Reuben and Mishka at Warrandyte river.
Sharyn Nash is our Certified Supervisor and is a Co-Educator in the four-year-old group. Sharyn commenced working at Dr. Stanley Cochrane Memorial Kindergarten in 2005, previously working in the Childcare sector for many years. Sharyn finds working with the children very rewarding and as the kinder year progresses she is always amazed at the growth in the childrens’ confidence, skills and abilities. Sharyn feels very privileged and honoured to be able to play a small part in helping to prepare the children for their next big adventure. Sharyn is married to Peter and they have two adult daughters, Jessica Lee and Laura. Tilly, their little dog is also a part of their family. Sharyn enjoys taking Tilly for walks, reading, trying out new recipes and catching up with friends for coffee or dinner.
Olivia joined our kinder in 2015 as the Co-Educator to the three-year-old group and is also the Co-Educator in the four-year-old group. This has made for a seamless transition into the four-year-old group with our returning children. Olivia has completed her Masters in teaching, and is a passionate and enthusiastic Educator. Olivia has a special interest in the environment and facilitates many of our wonderful environmental programs at the kindergarten.
Committee of Management
At Dr Stanley Cochrane Memorial Kindergarten we warmly invite and encourage our parents to become involved to any degree that suits them. Each year at the Annual General Meeting we call for parental involvement, to elect our volunteer Committee of Management for the following year.
Participation in the Committee provides a sense of involvement in your child’s education and is a worthwhile and fulfilling role to assume. It also affords an opportunity to forge friendships with the parents of the other children at the kinder, many of whom will attend school with your child. Don’t be daunted by the thought of joining a committee, because it can be very rewarding and not to mention, a lot of fun!
The Committee is made up of the following positions:
- Executive – President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer
- General Committee – Assistant Treasurer, Maintenance Officer, Enrolments Officer, Marketing Officer, Multimedia Officer, Social/Fundraising Committee Coordinator and General Support Members
- Sub Committee – Newsletter Editor
Maintenance and Social/Fundraising also have elected Committee members who provide assistance in their respective areas throughout the year. Guidance and support in these roles are provided by kindergarten staff and the outgoing Committee members. Assistance is also available from Early Learning Association Australia (ELAA) and the Department of Education and Early Childhood (DEECD) as needed. The Committee meets once a month and is responsible for the overall administration of the centre.
Words from our President
Thank you for taking the time to visit our Kindergarten’s Website. Choosing a kindergarten is an important decision. The current committee of management understands this as we have all been in your shoes. Why did we choose this kindergarten? There are many reasons.
DSCMK was established in 1957, the local community gathered together and saw a need and the local community spirit continues to thrive. The committee is managed by local community members who are parents. The teachers have a connection to the local community too and all live locally. Even with the constant growth in this busy eastern suburb, we still manage to be surrounded by gum trees and we have a beautiful playground and open space for the children. We pride ourselves on contributing back to our local environment including teaching the children to grow vegetables and herbs in a water efficient garden bed. We strongly believe that encouraging children to respect their environment puts them in good stead for their future.
We have been assessed under the National Quality Standards and were rated as exceeding expectations, we take pride in our approach to learning and we have many years of experience in our teaching staff.
It is important for children to experience new opportunities inside and outside the kindergarten and we provide these through the living eggs program, reptile farm visits and excursions to our neighbouring school and the local theatre.
Everyone is welcome at DSCMK and we look forward to welcoming you and your family to this wonderful facility.
Please visit our kindergarten during Education week in May, for opportunities to meet our dedicated teachers, members of our committee and current parents. It is a great day where we open our doors for a fun morning of craft activities, outdoor play and to gain a real feel of our kindergarten. Alternatively contact the kindergarten on 9874 2132.
